County Planning Workshop – Trinidad area Coastal Plan

The Planning and Building Department of Humboldt County invites you to attend a public workshop at 6:00 PM on Monday, November 9th, 2015 at the Trinidad Town Hall – located at 409 Trinity Street in Trinidad.

The purpose of the workshop is to share information and gather public input regarding the land use planning for approximately 130 privately owned Assessor’s parcels located on the west side of Scenic and Patrick’s Point Drive between Moonstone Beach in the south and Patrick’s Point State Park in the north.  The Coastal Commission did not certify the land use policies for this area with the rest of the Trinidad Area Plan in 1984 because the Commission determined that the Trinidad Area Plan’s coastal access policies were not adequate to protect beach accessways as required by Section 30211 of the Coastal Act. As a result, this area is not part of the County’s General Plan.

The County is conducting a review of available information from coastal access policies contained in other County LCPs; Coastal Development Permits approved by the Coastal Commission for this area; and mapped coastal access areas in the Trinidad area.  In addition, the County is reviewing background information for resources and services for this area to support the application of land use designation and zoning classifications for this area.  The proposed LCP amendment will be intended to establish land use policies and standards sufficient to address coastal access requirements.

The County is proposing to bring this area into the General Plan through an amendment of the Trinidad Area Plan.  We invite you to take part in a discussion of background information and a summary of the process to amend the General Plan and to provide your feedback on the process at the 6:00 PM workshop on Monday, November 9th.  You will have additional opportunities to participate in this process.  If you have questions in advance of the workshop you may call John Miller, Senior Planner, at 707-268-3781, or emailed them to jpmiller@co.humboldt.ca.us.
